Fuchsia splendens - sect. Ellobium (Onagraceae)


Botanische fuchsia, inheems in vochtige bergwouden in Mexico en Costa Rica.
Species, indigenous in damp mountain forests in Mexico and Costa Rica.

Bij de jonge knoppen zijn bloembuis en kelk nog ongeveer gelijk in lengte,
terwijl bij de volgroeide bloem de buis veel langer is dan kelk en kroon
The young buds show only a small difference in size between tube and calyx,
while the open flower has a tube far longer than calyx and corolla

       
Hoewel vrij klein, zijn deze bloemen heel opvallend door hun prachtige rode bloembuis
Though rather small, these flowers are very striking by their wonderful red tubes

Hiernaast een detail van Fuchsia splendens. De bloem links ziet men recht van voren, de andere van de veel smallere zijkant: het zijn tweezijdig symmetrische bloemen, terwijl de meeste fuchsiabloemen regelmatig zijn. De bloembuis van F. splendens is opmerkelijk "plat", terwijl de ingang van de bloem wel weer rond en regelmatig is. Alongside a detail of  Fuchsia splendens. Facing the flower on the left, but looking at the other one from aside, clearly shows these flowers are zygomorphic, while most fuchsia flowers are actinomorphic, the same on all sides. The tube of  F. splendens is remarkably "flat", while the entrance of the flower again is round and actinomorphic.

December 2005:  Helaas is de plant aan 't eind van dit najaar nogal roestgevoelig gebleken.
December 2005:  This plant is rather susceptible to rust, as I noticed by the end of this autumn.
