Deze roodbruine plant met heel kleine, eveneens overwegend roodbruine bloempjes, valt in de tuin op door de kleur van het blad.
Wat de bloemen betreft stelt hij m.i. minder voor - maar in mijn geval kwamen er dan ook erg weinig aan de plant. De scans hierboven laten een mooi gaaf bloempje zien, links ongeveer op ware grootte, de twee andere 4 x vergroot, evenals de afbeelding hiernaast waarop ook het rode blad heel mooi te zien is. In detail zijn de bloempjes wel heel mooi, en exotisch. De verwantschap met F. procumbens is wel aan de bouw van de bloem te zien, alleen staat deze niet rechtop en die van F. procumbens wel. Verder heeft F. procumbens in het geheel geen bloemkroon, terwijl Straat Malakka er wel een heeft - van vier heel smalle rode blaadjes die al gauw afvallen als de bloem eenmaal open is. Ze zijn goed zichtbaar op de scans, vooral waar men de bloem van onderen ziet (rechtsboven). This redbrown plant with very small, also mainly redbrown flowers, is decorative in the garden because of the foliage's colour. In my opinion, the flowers are less significant - but in my case there were hardly any flowers. The scans at the top of this page show a fine undamaged flower, the top-left one at about real size and the other two 4 x enlarged, just like the big picture on the left, which also gives a good impression of the red leaves. In detail the flowers are really beautiful, and exotic. The shape of the flower shows its relationship with F. procumbens, only the flower doesn't stand up like that of F. procumbens. Further F. procumbens doesn't have any petals at all, while Straat Malakka has 4 tiny red ones that drop very soon after the flower has opened. You can see them clearly in the scans, especially the top-right one. |
