'Jaspers Lightning' is een vrij nieuwe fuchsia, een triphylla met trossen witroze pijpjesbloemen. Hij maakt deel uit van een hele serie van dergelijke fuchsia's van de kweker Hans van Aspert, sommige (bijna) wit, andere rood of oranje, en allemaal gekeurd in 2013, waarvan de vrijwel witte 'Phileine', die ook het bekendst is, de kroon op deze "verzameling" schijnt te zijn; tot dusver bestonden er zo goed als geen witte triphylla-fuchsia's, de enige mij bekende naam was 'Our Ted', al uit 1987, die ik nooit in werkelijkheid heb gezien. Deze foto's heb ik genomen op de landelijke Fuchsiavriendendag in 2015, op de fuchsiashow in de Hortus Botanicus te Utrecht. Omdat 'Jaspers Unbelievable', een andere bijna-witte uit deze serie even in beeld kwam als onze Floralia-fuchsia voor 2019, zet ik deze halfzuster-plant ook ter vergelijking op de website. Uiterlijk vertonen ze ondanks slechts de rode 'Göttingen' als gemeenschappelijke kruisingsouder (deze lijkt veel op 'Gartenmeister Bondstedt', een evenoude cultivar van de Duitser Bonstedt uit 1905) veel overeenkomst in kleur en vorm, maar de knop van 'Jaspers Lightning' is puntiger dan die van 'Jaspers Unbelievable', die stomper is, en van de kelkbladen van 'Jaspers Lightning' (zusterzaailing van de bewuste 'Phileine' die witter is) staan de punten iets omhoog bij de geopende bloem, die van 'Jaspers Unbelievable' niet. | 'Jaspers Lightning' is a rather new fuchsia, a triphylla with racemes of whitepink pipes. It is part of a whole series of more or less similar fuchsias by the Dutch hybridizer Hans van Aspert, some (near)white, others red or orange, and all examined in 2013, of which the almost white 'Phileine', also the best-known, seems to be the crown on this collection; before there hardly existed any white fuchsias of the triphylla-type, the only name known to me was 'Our Ted', from 1987 already, which I never saw in reality. I took these photos at the Annual Meeting of the Dutch Fuchsia Society in 2015, on a fuchsiashow in the Hortus Botanicus at Utrecht. Because 'Jaspers Unbelievable', another near-white fuchsia in this series, for a short while was chosen as the Floralia-fuchsia voor 2019, I put this interesting halfsister-plant also on the website. They look very similar in shape and colour, in spite of only the red 'Göttingen' as mother-plant (very much alike to 'Gartenmeister Bondstedt', a cultivar of the German grower Bonstedt and also from 1905), but the sepal-tips of 'Jaspers Lightning' stand upwards and those of 'Jaspers Unbelievable' don't, while their buds differ too - those of 'Jaspers Lightning' are more pointed. The famous 'Phileine' is a sister-seedling, but she is even a bit whiter, with a more elegant flowertube. |
