Fuchsia cordifolia - sect. Ellobium (Onagraceae)

Botanische fuchsia, inheems in vochtige bergwouden in Mexico en Costa Rica.
Species, indigenous in damp mountain forests in Mexico and Costa Rica.

Plant after buying at Spek's nursery in 2004, on the right its first, almost yellow flowers

Bloemknoppen.
Flowerbuds. These are zygomorphic, one can see their tubes are flat, just like those of
Fuchsia splendens.

Plants in full bloom, left in 2007 and right a detail from 2009; the more sunshine, the more colour - these are orange-pink

The length of flower tubes varies much; left some short-tubed flowers, right a very long one; indoors this often occurs

These days Fuchsia cordifolia (= "Fuchsia with heartshaped leaves") is regarded as a subspecies of  Fuchsia splendens (= "Splendid Fuchsia"), the tube of which is far redder and its flowers are less variable in shape and colour.
The foliage is rather similar, but
Fuchsia splendens has somewhat darker, rougher leaves with more relief. Both species seem to occur in the same habitat.
The tubes of both
Fuchsia cordifolia and  F. splendens are remarkably "flat", zygomorphic, while the entrance of the flower again is round and actinomorphic like most fuchsias'.
Alongside a deformity with at the top of its tube a small green leaf.
Fuchsia cordifolia seems to me a bit less susceptible to rust than Fuchsia splendens.
It's also easier to root its cuttings in water.
