'Waternymph' is één van de eerste fuchsia's die ik kreeg, en nog wel als kroonboompje. Lang heeft dat het echter niet uitgehouden. Later heb ik wel weer planten uit stek opgekweekt, maar het is niet zo'n makkelijke plant om over te houden, is mijn ervaring.
De kleurcombinatie van 'Waternymph' is mooi en bijzonder, het roomwit van de kelk en het heldere rood van de kroonbladen, die in het midden een karakteristieke plooi hebben.
De bloemen lijken op die van 'Amélie Aubin', maar zijn net iets fijner van vorm en de knop heeft een puntje waarvan de kelkbladen net iets van elkaar lijken te wijken. Beide planten hebben vrijwel hetzelfde blad ('Waternymph' iets meer gebronsd, maar dezelfde vorm), waardoor het moeilijk is niet-bloeiende stekken van elkaar te onderscheiden. Doordat 'Amélie Aubin' makkelijker stekt is het mij diverse keren overkomen dat ik meende "eindelijk" weer een goede stek van 'Waternymph' te hebben opgekweekt, maar toch weer de magenta-kleurige kroon van 'Amélie Aubin' uit de knop zag komen.
'Waternymph' is one of the first fuchsias I ever got, even as a beautiful standard. It didn't live long, however. Later I grew new plants from cuttings, but it's not easy to keep this plant alive, as I experienced.
The combination of colours in 'Waternymph' is beautiful and special, the creamy white of the calyx and the vivid red of the petals having a characteristic fold in the middle.
The flowers look a lot like those of 'Amélie Aubin', but their shape is just a bit more refined, and at the tip of the bud the sepals seems to part a little. Both plants have almost the same foliage ('Waternymph' a bit more bronze, but the same shape), which causes difficulty in keeping the cuttings apart as long as they're not in flower. Because 'Amélie Aubin' roots more easily, it's happened to me several times when I hoped to have grown a nice cutting of 'Waternymph' at last, I had to conclude it was 'Amélie Aubin' when the flowers at opening showed a magenta-coloured corolla again.
