Deze zomer was ik weer eens meegegaan met het jaarlijkse "reisje van de fuchsiaclub", zoals ik dit gemakshalve noem. Vorig jaar was het niet doorgegaan wegens gebrek aan belangstelling, dit jaar ging het wel door en ook nog naar een prachtige fuchsiashow (het zijn altijd tuinenreisjes, maar vaak niet eens met fuchsia's). Dat het op 7 juli zulk mooi weer zou zijn had niet echt waarschijnlijk geleken, want in de eindeloze regenvloeden van eind juni en vrijwel de hele maand juli was de kans op een droge zonnige dag erg klein. Maar het was dus schitterend weer.

De eerste bestemming was Kwekerij Spek in Heerde (Gelderland) waar duizenden soorten fuchsia's worden gekweekt, maar die ligt voor mij niet bepaald naast de deur en ik was er ook nog nooit geweest.
Er was een Open Tuin-week, waarin tevens het 25-jarig bestaan van het bedrijf werd gevierd. We dronken er eerst koffie met gebak.
Voor de versiering stond er op elk tafeltje een drijfschaaltje vol verschillende fuchsiabloemen - dit zag er heel aantrekkelijk uit, bijna om op te eten...Buiten gekomen dwaalden we een paar uur over het terrein langs de fuchsiashow en andere potplanten (o.a. Pelargoniums en Petunia's), ik raakte er niet uitgekeken.
De tuin zelf was mooi aangelegd, met waterpartijtjes en mooie hoekjes.'s Middags bezochten we nog twee grote privé-tuinen in de Noordoostpolder, in Nagele en Rutten.
Er waren ook heel oude stamfuchsia's van rond de twintig jaar, sommige zelfs nog ouder.

Hoewel deze ook heel mooi waren, zeker de moeite van een bezoek waard, ga ik er op de site niet verder op in. Een mooie foto om een indruk te geven, maar daarna ga ik weer over tot de orde van de fuchsia's, die ik bij bovengenoemde kwekerij uitvoerig heb bekeken en gefotografeerd, zodat er weer een paar pagina's van nieuwe fuchsia's bij konden worden gemaakt.

This summer I joined the yearly "fuchsia club trip" as I usually call it. Last year it had been cancelled because of lack of participation, but this year it did take place again and the main destination was a lovely fuchsia show (these trips always go to gardens, but often not with fuchsias). That the weather would be very fine on July 7th couldn't be considered probable, for the whole period from the 20th of June and almost the entire month of July was like one endless shower of rain with only now and then a few sunrays peeping through the clouds. But really, the weather was perfect during the whole trip.
The first place to go was Nursery Spek at Heerde (Gelderland, mid-Netherlands) where thousands of fuchsia cultivars are grown, but this being not exactly near where I live, I'd never been there before.
They had an Open Garden week, and also the celebration of the 25th anniversary of their business.
When we arrived we started with coffee and cake there.
When we came out of the tea-room we walked about the area for a few hours, around the show of Fuchsias and other potplants (a.o. Pelargoniums en Petunias), I didn't have enough time to see it all.
The permanent garden had been laid out beautifully, with ornamental waters and pretty nooks.In the afternoon we also visited two big private gardens in the Noordoostpolder, at Nagele and Rutten.
There was also a collection of very old fuchsia standards aged about 20 years, some even older.

Although these gardens also were very pretty and certainly worth a visit, I'm not telling a lot about them here on the website. A nice photograph to give an impression, but further I'll show some new pages with photos of the fuchsias I saw at the above-mentioned nursery.
