Zomerreisje van de NKvF-regio Friesland, 6 juli 2005
In alle vroegte, om half 8 's morgens, vertrok de bus uit Leeuwarden, vanaf de bekende plek achter het FEC. Een half uurtje later stapten in Heerenveen bij McDonald's de overige passagiers in,
het merendeel van de in totaal 52 mensen, waarmee de bus geheel vol was.
Het werd een vrij lange rit, vandaar het vroege vertrek; even na 10 uur arriveerden we in Diepenheim in Twente, waar we uitstapten bij de "open tuin" van de fam. Wormgoor, oorspronkelijk een boomgaard. Terwijl de gastvrouw ons tegemoet liep, begon het prompt te regenen.
Onze grote groep werd verdeeld over twee overdekte terrasjes, waar we om de beurt koffie en koek konden halen.
De stemming zat er goed in, zoals op de foto te zien is.
Twee zwarte schnautzerhonden heetten ons nadrukkelijk welkom vanuit hun kennel, die zich pal naast het terras bevond.

Na de koffie wandelden we door de grote tuin van ca. 1 ha, die o.a. bestond uit een stukje bos (met een indrukwekkende, groenbemoste omgevallen eik), enige wildernis met
vervallen gebouwen, en een aantal mooie grasvelden en borders, sommige omgeven door een haag. Helaas kwamen de fraaie bloemkleuren in de regenvloeden niet optimaal tot hun recht.
Velen van het gezelschap hadden een paraplu meegenomen of te leen gekregen, anderen beschermden zich met een regenpak of -jack.
Rond half 12 schuifelden we onder onze plu's weer naar de bus terug, en vervolgden de reis naar het uitgebreide tuincentrum Oosterik in Denekamp, waar we van 12 tot 3 uur "onder dak" konden
blijven - bij deze weersomstandigheden niet zo ongeschikt.
Hoewel ik persoonlijk niet zoveel belang bij nieuwe aankopen had i.v.m. het gebrek aan ruimte in mijn huis en tuin, was het bekijken van de vele plantensoorten al een bezoek waard;
er waren zowel tuin- als kamerplanten, o.a. orchideeën, Chinese en echte rozen, gerbera's, hortensia's, vleesetende planten, passiebloemen - en allerlei fraaie soorten die enkel maar latijnse namen dragen zoals Dipladenia,
Mandevilla, enzovoort.
Ook fuchsia's ontbraken niet, er was een hoek met allemaal fuchsia's op stam, en verder nog kunst-fuchsia's - want kunstbloemen waren er ook, een ruim assortiment...
Tenslotte kon ik de verleiding niet weerstaan om een lila-blauwe Clematis 'Arabella' en een bakje geraniums met heel donker blad mee te nemen, daar zou ik toch altijd thuis nog wel een plekje voor moeten kunnen vinden.
Weer bij de bus aangekomen, zag ik wel dat ik niet de enige was die iets had aangeschaft.
Onze chauffeur had het er maar druk mee om alles zonder beschadigen in het laadruim onderin de bus te schuiven.

Summer trip of the Friesian Branch of the Dutch Fuchsia Society, 6 July 2005
Very early in the morning, at 7.30 AM, our bus took off from Leeuwarden, from the well-known spot behind the FEC-building. Half an hour later we stopped at Heerenveen near McDonald's to pick up the
remaining passengers, more than half of the company consisting of 52 people, filling the whole bus.
It was to become a fairly long drive, therefore the early departure; a few minutes past 10 AM we arrived at
Diepenheim in Twente (province of Overijssel), where we went off the bus at the "open garden" of the Wormgoor family, originally an orchard. While the lady came towards us to show us into her garden,
it instantly started to rain.
Our big group was divided over two covered terraces, where we in turn could fetch a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.
Our high spirits could be read from our faces, as you see in the picture.
Two black Schnautzer dogs gave us a warm welcome from their kennel bordering the terrace.

After coffee we walked through the large garden of about 1 hectare consisting of a small wood with an impressive fallen-over oak-tree, some wilderness with a few hovels,
and an amount of beautiful lawns and flowering borders, some surrounded by a hedge. Too bad, the bright colours of the flowers were dimmed a bit by the floods of rain.
Many of the company had taken umbrellas with them or got one from Mrs. Wormgoor to use in her garden, others protected themselves with a raincoat or -jacket.
Around 11.30 we shuffeled back to the bus under our umbrellas, and continued our journey to the extended gardencentre Oosterik at Denekamp, where we could walk around well-sheltered from noon to 3 pm -
not the worst choice with these weatherconditions.
Although personally I didn't really need to make any purchases because I lack room in my house and garden, even watching the many kinds of plants only was worthwhile;
there were both garden- and houseplants, a.o. orchids, Chinese and real roses, Gerberas, Hydrangeas, carnivorous plants, passion flowers - and lots of beautiful plants only bearing latin names like Dipladenia,
Mandevilla, and so on.
I saw fuchsias also, there was a corner with various standards, and even artificial fuchsias - there were many shelves with artificial flowers too, plenty of choice...
At last I couldn't resist to buy a mauve-blue Clematis 'Arabella' and a tray of very dark-leaved geraniums, for which I should find some place at home anyway.
Back at the bus again, I saw that I certainly wasn't the only one who had bought something.
Our driver had quite a task to put everything in the cargo hold of the bus without damage.
