'Taco' is een plant van Jan de Boer, maar anders dan zijn meeste andere - hij is beslist niet winterhard en er zit ook geen Nieuw Zeelands voorgeslacht in - de 3 bovengenoemde botanische fuchsia's komen alle uit Zuid-Amerika. De in 1997 goedgekeurde plant kreeg in 1999 in de Keukenhof, waar een groepje prachtige exemplaren bij elkaar stond, het Getuigschrift Eerste Klasse.

'Taco' is one of Jan de Boer's hybrids, but unlike most of his 'creations' this plant is not at all winterhardy, nor has anything to do with the New Zealand species that occur in the pedigree of many other plants of his - the 3 species mentioned above are all from South America. Taco was examined in 1997, but in 1999 at the Keukenhof where a group of excellent plants was situated, it got an extra decoration, the First Class Certificate.

   

Er wordt beweerd dat de bloem ook een dubbele kroon kan hebben, maar bij mijn plant was dat geenszins het geval - de kroonblaadjes waren vrij klein en smal.
It is said the corolla also can be double, but with my plant this certainly wasn't so - the petals were rather small and slender.

   

'Taco' moet bovengronds en koel en droog overwinteren, liefst bij ± 5°C. Hogere temperaturen laten de plant 's winters doorbloeien, waardoor het heel moeilijk wordt hem te stekken in het voorjaar, de enige tijd dat dit schijnt te lukken.

'Taco' should be kept in a pot during winter, rather dry and cool - at about 5°C (± 41°F). At higher temperatures it goes on flowering during the winter, which makes it very difficult to get any cuttings in spring (which seems to be the only time for this cultivar).
