Gele plomp - Yellow waterlily / spatterdock
Nuphar lutea (Nymphaeaceae)
| Als men goed kijkt, ziet men in het zoekplaatje hierboven maar liefst 5 uitgebloeide bloemen - onderaan eentje die nog maar net zijn gele kleur heeft verloren maar duidelijk nog de bloemvorm heeft, terwijl de andere al in een verder vruchtstadium zijn. De flesvormige vruchten drijven in het water, met de groengeworden stempels erbovenuit als de halzen van halfgevulde flessen. Een grappige bijkomstigheid is, dat de geur van deze vruchten zelfs iets aan verschaalde wijn doet denken. |
Having a proper look, you see in the picture above no less than 5 faded flowers - in the front one just having lost its yellow colour, but still having the shape of a flower,
while the others already have reached the bottle-shape of the riper fruit. They float in the water, with the old green stigmas on top sticking out of the water like the necks of half-filled bottles. A funny detail is that the smell of these fruits even somewhat resembles that of stale wine. |

De vrucht op ongeveer ware grootte. Van binnen zit luchtgevuld sponsachtig weefsel (waardoor de vrucht kan blijven drijven) waartussen zich de zaden bevinden. Die zitten heel efficiėnt opgeborgen, het lijken er op de scan niet zo veel maar na zorgvuldig uitpellen bleken er ongeveer 200 te zijn! | The fruit at about real size. Its inside consists of spongy air-filled tissue (hence the floating quality of the fruit) containing the seeds, packed with great efficiency - there don't seem to be a great many in the scan, but after peeling them all out of the tissue I counted about 200 seeds! |

Op bovenstaande scan, 4 x vergroot, is de structuur van het geelachtige sponsweefsel goed zichtbaar. De dikke, in lengterichting doorgesneden stengel toont zeer duidelijke vaten. Op het kleine plaatje rechts een waterworm, 4 x vergroot, die zich tussen de vergane bloemdekbladen verschool. |
