'Remembering Claire' heeft, zoals bovenaan de pagina te zien is, een ingewikkelde "stamboom", met drie heel verschillende botanische fuchsia's en verder nog drie cultivars. 'Wilson's Pearls' is een rood-met-witte halfdubbele, die ik alleen van een paar foto's op internet ken. Helaas heb ik de botanische Fuchsia magdalenae en Fuchsia inflata ook nooit in werkelijkheid gezien, wel 2 paarse bloempjes en 2 oranje bessen van Fuchsia juntasensis (vreemde naam overigens, doet me altijd aan een militaire junta denken in Zuid-Amerika, waar de plant ook vandaan komt). De naam 'Remembering Claire' intrigeert trouwens ook; veel fuchsia's zijn naar een persoon genoemd, vaak met de achternaam er ook nog bij, maar deze mooie fuchsia is waarschijnlijk een ode aan een overledene, ter nagedachtenis. | 'Remembering Claire' has, as you can see at the top of the page, a rather complicated pedigree, with three quite different botanical species and further three cultivars. 'Wilson's Pearls' is a red-white semi-double one, which I only know from a few photos on the internet. To my regret I've never seen the species Fuchsia magdalenae nor Fuchsia inflata in reality, while from Fuchsia juntasensis I saw just 2 purple flowers and 2 orange berries; a strange name, juntasensis, it always reminds me of a military junta in South-America, from where this plant also originates. The name 'Remembering Claire' also intrigues me; many fuchsias bear the name of an existing person, both christian name and surname, but this beautiful fuchsia probably is an ode to one deceased, a remembrance. |
De prachtige paarse kleur van deze bloemen komt voort uit de zeldzame Fuchsia juntasensis, en niet zoals bij de meeste paars-aubergine
cultivars uit de Nieuw-Zeelandse fuchsia's, of soms de sering-achtige kleinbloemige van de sectie Schufia als bijv. F. arborescens.
De oranje kleur van de meeste andere voorouders is nergens meer te zien, noch het rood-wit van Checkerboard en Wilson's Pearls.
The beautiful purple colour in these flowers originates from the rare Fuchsia juntasensis, and not like in most purple-aubergine cultivars
from the New Zealand fuchsias, or sometimes the syringa-like small-flowered ones of the Schufia section like e.g. F. arborescens.
The orange colour of most of the ancestry isn't visible anymore, neither the red-and-white of Checkerboard and Wilson's Pearls.

De kroon van deze bloemen toont wat gesloten, meestal steken er geen stampers uit en al helemaal geen meeldraden; deze zijn nl. zo kort dat ze helemaal bovenin de kelk zitten, zoals op de platgelegde bloem rechtsboven te zien is, en de stamper is ook vrij kort. Zie ook de foto's hieronder, van losse bloemen in een vaasje. | These flowers' corollas seem somewhat closed, mostly no pistils are visible and stamens never - these are so short they're inside the top of the calyx, as one can see in the flattened flower right-above, and the pistil is rather short too. 'Remembering Claire' is de moeder van 'All Summer Beauty', die er veel op lijkt maar zoals hier te zien toch wel verschillen vertoont.

'Remembering Claire' is the mother of 'All Summer Beauty', which resembles it much, but as the pictures show there are some differences too.
