Heliotropium arborescens (Boraginaceae)
De Heliotroop, die vanaf mei de hele zomer kan bloeien, draagt geurige paarse bloempjes in platte schermen. Bij zonnig weer schijnen de bloemen het meeste te geuren.
De plant zelf is vergiftig. Bevat pyrrolizidine alkaloïden die onherstelbare leverschade aanrichten bij consumptie, evenals kruiskruiden.
Heliotrope flowers from May during the whole summer, and bears scented purple flowers in flat inflorescences, which seem to be fragrant mainly when the sun shines.
The plant is poisonous, it contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which cause irrepairable damage to the liver when eaten, just like ragworts.
The Dutch word "Trouw" means "Faithfulness"
