No. 18 - Witte lelie - White lily
Lilium hybr.
(Liliaceae)

White lilies are a symbol of immaculate purity. These spectacular flowers in church liturgy are often used in connection with Mary, in Roman Catholic conception the Queen of Heaven. The meaning of the flower given here, 'Majesteit' meaning 'Majesty' can be seen in relation to this.
In the above photo an example of a liturgic flower arrangement with Christmas (in a Protestant church, though), and below a beautiful white lily in my neighbours' garden. Unfortunately garden lilies as a rule are attacked by the beautiful red lily leaf beetle
(Lilioceris lilii)  gnawing at the leaves, the larva as well as the adult insect.
