Deze foto's heb ik daar echter niet gemaakt, ze zijn van mijn vakantie in de Vendée (West-Frankrijk), in juli 2001. Daar waren zout-moerassen, waar ook zoutwinning plaatsvond door de indamping van zeewater in "zoutpannen".
Men trof daar een heel speciale plantengroei aan. Behalve strandduizendguldenkruid ook o.m. zeekraal en obione, die ik in 1983 op Texel al had gezien, maar ook enorme wilde artisjokken, die bij ons niet inheems zijn.
Beach centaury isn't very common in the Netherlands; it grows on saliferous soils, mainly on the Frisian islands.
I didn't take these photos there, however - they're from my holidays in the West-French Vendée in July 2001.
They had salt-marshes there, where salt was made by evaporating seawater in salinas.
In these environments you find a very special flora. Some of these plants (a.o. glasswort and obione) I'd seen before in 1983, when I spent a week on Texel, one of our Frisian islands, but certainly not all of them - like the enormous wild artichokes, which you don't find with us.
