No. 35 - Ranonkel - Persian buttercup
Ranunculus asiaticus (Ranunculaceae)

Er zijn verschillende planten van het geslacht Ranunculus, maar alleen deze wordt echt 'Ranonkel' genoemd. Het is een uitheemse soort, afkomstig uit Azië naar de naam te oordelen. Er zijn verschillende kleuren, rood, roze, wit en geel, en toevallig dat ik pas op een verjaardag kwam waar iemand een gemengde bos rode bloemen had meegebracht waar o.a. ranonkels in zaten! Dus meteen een foto gemaakt, en die naast de kaart gezet, die toevallig ook nog in exact hetzelfde rood bleek te zijn.
Op de onderste foto is een totaal andere plant van dit geslacht te zien, nl. de waterranonkel (Ranunculus aquatilis). Deze plant heb ik nooit bewust in 't wild in het water gezien, maar die op deze foto maakte deel uit van een kunstwerk, bestaande uit enige lange houten bakken gevuld met water, waarin deze plantjes dreven. Zoals wel meer waterplanten hebben ze boven water andere bladeren dan eronder.


There are various plants of the genus Ranunculus, the above is grown as a cutflower mainly, and originates from Asia - the Persian buttercup should come from Iran, if you believe its common name. There are yellow and red, pink and white ones, and they look a bit like roses, but stems and foliage are quite different. I was lucky lately, to come across a few red ones in a bouquet of flowers when I went on a birthday-visit, otherwise I would never have got a photo of this flower.
And alas, I couldn't find any poem about Persian buttercup, so we'll have to do without poetry this time. The meaning of 'Aantrekkelijkheid'  is 'Attractiveness', so this can't be the reason why poets didn't get enough inspiration...
Below there's a picture of a different plant of the genus, the Common Water-crowfoot (Ranunculus aquatilis), a waterplant I never saw in the wild, but a few years ago in our local park there was a temporary artwork consisting of a few huge wooden boxes in which there was a layer of water in which these plants drifted about. Like more waterplants, they've different leaves in the water than above the surface.
