Zomer 2003
Een terugblik op de zomer, die nu waarschijnlijk voorbij is, helaas. Morgen begint officieel de herfst.
Vandaag, 22 september, begon nog met stralend weer, maar 's middags rond 1 uur stak er een harde wind op - en vanavond was het ook stralend, maar van de regen die langs de ruiten stroomde.
Dit was me nog eens een prachtige lange, warme zomer.
Misschien af en toe wel wat te heet, iets teveel van het goede, maar toch naar mijn smaak heel wat beter dan de drie voorgaande - althans, hier in Nederland, verder naar het zuiden was de hitte verschroeiend voor mens en gewas.
Eén van de oorzaken dat ik al die tijd niets op deze website heb gezet, is wel dat ik vanwege het aanhoudend mooie weer weinig zin had om binnen achter de computer te zitten.
22 september:
Hierbij een paar bladzijden van een uitstapje op 7 augustus, een smoorhete dag.
Aangezien er nergens in onze buurt een fuchsiashow werd gehouden dit jaar, bezochten we de minst verre in Ootmarsum (Overijssel), die deel uitmaakte van de jaarlijkse Flora aldaar op het terrein van het openluchtmuseum "Los Hoes".
Van verscheidene fuchsia's maakte ik foto's, waarvan de volgende bladzijden zijn toegevoegd:

Hoewel het momenteel ook nog op de oude locatie ligt, heb ik dit gedeelte van mijn website een nieuwe plek gegeven omdat het niet alleen irritant was dat er steeds méér reclame op de gratis webruimte van tripod.com verscheen (inmiddels behalve de -aanvankelijk enige- banner bovenaan de pagina minstens 1 pop-up maar soms ook meer, en tenslotte onderaan de bladzijde ook nog 3 kleine banners naast elkaar), maar men het kennelijk ook nog nodig vond om een hourly download limit in te stellen, wat tot resultaat heeft dat de site na 1 of 2 bladzijden bekijken voor 2 uur wordt afgesloten ("suspended"), zodat er dan niemand meer iets kan bekijken.
Reden voor mij om te besluiten om er wat webruimte bij te huren, waarop geen reclame meer verschijnt en ook meer vrijheid van meningsuiting mogelijk is.

Looking back on the summer, alas! - that probably belongs to the past already. Tomorrow we have the official beginning of autumn.

Summer 2003
Today, 22 September, still began with warm sunshine, but around mid-day a hard wind rose - and this evening it started pouring with rain, the windows on the west were blurred by the water streaming along.
We really had a splendid, long hot summer this year.
Of course, sometimes a bit too hot, too much of the good thing, but to my taste a far better summer than the first 3 ones of the 21st century. At least here in the Netherlands - farther south the heat scorched both man and crop.
One thing that caused me to neglect this website, was my preferring to enjoy the fine weather outside, to sitting inside working at my computer.

Here a few pages of a trip on the 7th of August, a sweltering hot day.
Since nowhere in our neighbourhood there was any fuchsiashow this year, we visited the nearest, or: least far one, at the village of Ootmarsum in the province of Overijssel, which took a 2½ hours' drive (!) to go there. It proved only a rather small fuchsiashow, being part of a "Flora" containing other plants too, a yearly event there on the grounds of the open-air museum "Los Hoes".
In spite of the heat and many wilted flowers, I took photos of several fuchsias, of which I added the following pages:

Although it's still there on the old address, I put this part of my website on a new location, because beside more and more irritating ads at the "free" tripod.com-account - starting with only a banner at the top of each page, later-on extended with one or sometimes more pop-ups and a few months ago 3 additional small banners at the bottom - the Tripod company showed the infinite wisdom to create an "hourly download limit", resulting in closing down the domain for 2 hours after any person watching 1 or 2 pages, making any further visits impossible.
A reason for me to decide to rent some webspace, not containing any ads any more, and offering me more possibilities to give my own opinion, without having to obey to strict American rules of censorship.
