Mini-Fuchsiashow in Beetsterzwaag van de NKvF-regio Friesland, 10-13 augustus 2006
Deze zomer werd er weer eens een fuchsiashow georganiseerd door onze regio. De vorige, in Rijs, was inmiddels alweer 5 jaar geleden, waar blijft de tijd!
Omdat het ledental wat is geslonken, evenals de inkomsten van de vereniging, zat een echt grote show er niet in, dus moest het veel bescheidener van opzet.
In de tuin bij de Tropische Kas van Beetsterzwaag konden we wel terecht, en rond de kassen werd een kleine, maar mooie show opgezet, die op donderdag 10 augustus om 10 uur werd geopend.
Helaas was het maar matig gesteld met het weer op die ochtend. De grootste vriend van een gelegenheid als deze, nl. de zon,
liet zich helaas vrijwel niet zien, waardoor de bloemkleuren in deze reportage niet zo sprankelend zijn als ze eigenlijk hadden moeten wezen.
De eigenlijke show was opgebouwd rond de kassen. Links de kleine "kiosk" waar men de kaartjes verkocht.
Vanwege het adellijke karakter van de locatie (oorspronkelijk de Overtuin van het Lycklamahûs waar in de 19de eeuw Jonkheer Jan Anne Lycklama ā Nijeholt woonde)
liepen er ook een freule (Anneke Faber, op bovenstaande foto in gesprek met Mevr. Koek van de NKvF-bibliotheek) en een jonker (Kees Kuiper, zie foto hier linksonder) over het terrein.
Rechtsboven een carrousel met verschillende fuchsia's, hieronder pergola's, met op de achtergrond de kassen.
Hierboven o.a twee grote fuchsia's van veredelaar Jan de Boer (onze vorige regio-voorzitter),
links de witte 'Maetsuycker' en linksvoor 'Marjan de Boer'.
Tijdens regenbuien vluchtte het publiek tijdelijk de kassen in, dan leek de hele show verlaten.
Er was een hoek met witte fuchsia's, maar die was bij dit sombere weer wel heel erg donker. - Hier een flitsfoto:

De rode fuchsia's hadden het er dit jaar vol slecht fuchsiaweer het beste vanaf gebracht,
ze waren in de meerderheid en bloeiden veel uitbundiger dan de witte en de meeste andere.
Om half 12 werd de uitslag van de keuring van de wedstrijdplanten bekend gemaakt.
Er waren twee soorten, de echte Floralia-plant, dit jaar
'Temptation', en een extra plant die door Freerk en
Sjoukje v.d. Veen van kwekerij "Het Purperklokje" uit Boelenslaan beschikbaar was gesteld: 'Miss California'.

Aanvankelijk stond Mevr. M. Crucke, voorzitster van zowel onze regio als de landelijke NKvF (rechts op de foto) met twee prijsbekers in de handen zonder ze te kunnen uitreiken, omdat de winnaars zelf niet aanwezig waren, nl.
de gebroeders De Vries uit Kollum, die met de officiële Floralia-plant hadden gewonnen, 'Temptation'. Maar toen de tweede en derde prijs eenmaal in ontvangst waren genomen door
resp. Mevr. Couperus (midden) en Mevr. van der Schaaf (links),
kwamen de broers er juist aanlopen. Hieronder poseren ze met de bekers (waarvan één een wisselbeker) en de oorkonde.
Hierboven: Mw. Couperus (3de prijs) en Mw. Rodermond (1ste prijs) kregen een knolbegonia als prijs
voor hun 'Miss California'.
De tweede prijs was voor dhr. J. Postema, maar deze was niet aanwezig.
Terug naar de ingang, een laatste blik achterom. Een wagentje met o.a. 'Constance' stond langs het pad.

Mini-Fuchsiashow at Beetsterzwaag, Friesian Branch of the Dutch Fuchsia Society, 10-13 August 2006
Five years after the big Fuchsia-show we had at Rijs, our Friesian Branch organized a show again this summer. Because the number of members and the funds of our Society are declining a bit, the
show had to be more modest than the one in 2001.
We found a good location at Beetsterzwaag, where we always have our meetings at the Community Centre too. There is a park called
De Tropische Kas (= The Tropical Greenhouse), where a small but beautiful show was realized, which was opened on Thursday 10 August at 10 a.m.
Alas, the weather wasn't too good that morning. The sun, our best friend on an occasion like this,
hardly showed its face, which made the pictures of this
event a bit duller than they should be...
The show had been built up around the greenhouses. On the left the little "kiosk" where the tickets were sold.
The show was called "Fuchsia adellijke pracht", which means "Fuchsia noble splendour", because of the noble past of the spot (belonging to Jonkheer (=Esquire) Jan Anne Lycklama ā Nijeholt in the 19th century).
Two of our society-members, Anneke Faber (above, talking to Mrs. Koek who is the head of our society's library) and Kees Kuiper (photo left-below) were dressed in style.

Above a.o. 2 big fuchsias of hybridizer Jan de Boer (our former chairman),

When the visitors fled into the greenhouses during rain-showers, the show looked deserted for some time.
There was a corner with white fuchsias, but it proved extremely dark with this cloudy weather. - A flash-picture:

There were quite a lot of red fuchsias, they had the best resistance to the bad weather
of this year and flowered abundantly, in contrast to the white ones and most others.
Around half past 11 we heard about the results of the examination of the contest-plants.
There were two contest-fuchsia's, the real Floralia plant, 'Temptation' this year, and an
extra plant given out by Nursery "Het Purperklokje" at Boelenslaan: 'Miss California'.

At first Mrs. M. Crucke, president of the Dutch Fuchsia Society as well as chairwoman of our Branch (on the right in the above picture) stood with two prize-cups in her hands without anybody to give them to, because the winners weren't present
themselves, the brothers De Vries from Kollum, who had won the 1st prize with the official Floralia-plant 'Temptation'. But when the 2nd and 3rd prizes had been given out to Mrs. Couperus (centre) en Mrs. van der Schaaf (left),
