Wespennest uit meterkast opgeruimd - een goed begin van het seizoen

De foto hierboven laat een deel zien van wat er uit de ruimte tussen twee houten wandjes aan de buitenkant van onze meterkast vandaan kwam, nl. de resten van één of meer wespennesten.
Na drie of vier keer een wespennest in deze ruimte (verleden zomer ook weer) waren we 't zat - mijn allergie voor wespensteken maakte het uitroeien van de wespenkolonies noodzakelijk, hetgeen door een "deskundige" moest worden gedaan, wat zo'n 70 Euro per keer kostte, plus de angst voor een fatale wespensteek!
Er zitten nl. luchtgaatjes in de buitenwand, ideale vlieggaten voor de insecten. De binnenwand moest er tijdelijk uitgesloopt om de gaatjes met horregaas af te kunnen dekken, zodat de lucht nog wel, maar de wespen niet meer naar binnen konden.
Tot vandaag (14 april) kon het amper lente heten, wat de temperatuur buiten betreft.
Althans, bij ons in Friesland. Eind maart was er een week met zonnig weer, die overal in Nederland behalve bij ons in 't noorden als lente kon worden beschouwd - temperaturen tot een graad of 20, maar helaas, bij ons bleef 't steken bij net iets onder de tien! Een straffe oostenwind bedierf de pret.

18 april:

Wasps' nest removed from our meter cupboard - a good start of the season

The photo above shows part of something that was hidden between two wooden walls on the outer side of our meter cupboard before we took the inside wall away: the remains of one or more wasps' nests. After three or four nests (including last summer) we were fed up with them - being allergic for wasps' stings I always was forced to have the colonies exterminated by an "expert", which cost us about 70 Euro each time, plus the fear of a fatal sting!
There are airholes in the outside wooden wall, an chosen entrance for a wasps' nest. The inside wall had to be removed temporarily in order to clean up the space between and to cover the holes with wire screen keep the insects out, but still let in the air.
Until the second half of April we had hardly any spring here, speaking of the temperature outside.
At least, with us in Friesland. The last week of March was very nice in most parts of the Netherlands, with temperatures up to 20° C, but in the north it hardly came to a bleak 10°, a strong cold wind from the east spoiled it for us.
